What this plugin does
The Bookmarks and course progress block sits on a course page and answers two questions at a glance: how far am I in this course, and do I want to save it for later? It shows a progress ring and bar based on the course's completion settings, plus a one-click toggle that saves the course to your bookmarks.
On the page the block heading reads Bookmarks and course progress; Add a block and the plugin list name it LernHive Bookmarks and course progress.
Who this is for
| Role | What they do |
|---|---|
| Learner | Checks progress and bookmarks the course |
| Trainer | Adds or configures the block and sets up activity completion |
| Platform administration | Adds the block to course pages where trainers do not |
Journeys by role
Learner: check your course progress
- Open a course that shows the block. New Snack, Community and WBT courses have it automatically.
- The Your course progress card shows a percentage ring, a summary such as "2 of 5 activities completed" and a bar.
- The hint "Complete all activities marked as required to finish this course." explains what counts. Only activities with completion tracking that you can see count; an activity completed with a failing grade does not count as done.
- If the course has no completion-tracked activities, the card shows "No required completion activities have been configured yet."
Learner: bookmark the course
- Click the bookmark icon labelled Bookmark course in the block header.
- The icon fills and the label changes to Bookmarked; the course is now in My Bookmarks on your Dashboard and in your full bookmark list.
- Click the icon again to remove the bookmark.
Trainer: add and configure the block
- Open the course, turn on Edit mode and choose Add a block → LernHive Bookmarks and course progress. The block is available on course pages only.
- To change the look, open the block's settings and choose Card layout: Automatic (based on region width), Wide (course region) or Compact (sidebar).
- For a meaningful percentage, enable completion tracking and give activities completion conditions.
- As a trainer you see no progress and no hint in the card: like Moodle's course overview, the block shows progress only to people Moodle counts in the course's completion reports.
Platform administration: add the block where it is missing
- Courses created before the automatic placement, or in other formats, do not have the block. Add it via Add a block as described for trainers.
Settings that matter
Card layout per block instance. Automatic mode switches to the compact card when the block's region is narrow. Progress follows the course's completion settings; the bookmark itself is stored by the LernHive bookmark plugin.
Limitations
- Course pages only, once per page; not on the Dashboard or the front page.
- Progress counts activities with completion tracking that you can see; a completion with a failing grade does not count.
- The block bookmarks the whole course. Single activities are bookmarked on the activity page.
- Placed automatically only in new Snack, Community and WBT courses; in other courses a trainer or the platform administration adds it.
- Guests, logged-out users and users without the right to create bookmarks see no content.
Troubleshooting
The card shows no percentage. → The course has no completion-tracked activities, or you are not counted for completion in this course (for example as a trainer).
Progress seems too low. → Activities completed with a failing grade and activities hidden from you do not count.
The bookmark icon does nothing. → Check that the LernHive bookmark plugin is installed and that you may create bookmarks. Saved courses appear in My Bookmarks on the Dashboard.
