What this plugin does
The In my area block shows which people from your courses are online near the town you chose. Sharing your town is voluntary and can be undone at any time.

Journeys by role
Learner: share your town and see who is nearby
- Find the In my area block on a course page or your Dashboard.
- Without a town, the block says "Choose a town to find people nearby. Your town is optional and can be removed at any time." Click Manage my place.
- Agree to the optional location policy and confirm your town.
- The block now lists up to five online people from all your courses within the radius of your town, with their town and the distance between town centres. The course that shows the block does not narrow this list.
- Click a name to open the profile, or Open Engage for more results.
Learner: stop sharing your town
- Click Manage my place in Engage and remove your town, or withdraw your consent to the location policy.
- You no longer appear for others, and the block asks for a town again.
Trainer: add the block to a course
- Open the course, switch on Edit mode and choose Add a block → In my area.
Platform administration: add the block to a Dashboard or course
- Add In my area via Add a block on a course page or the default Dashboard.
Site administrator: configure the radius
- The radius is set in the Engage settings (Nearby radius (km), 1–1000 km, default 50). The block itself has no settings.
Settings that matter
None in the block. Radius, location policy and presence rules belong to Engage.
Limitations
- At most five people are shown; Open Engage shows more.
- Distances are measured between town centres, not addresses.
- Only people who share a course with you, are online and share their own town appear.
- Guests and logged-out users see no content.
Troubleshooting
The block says nearby people are not available. → The location feature (policy) is not set up on the site.
The block stays empty. → Engage may be switched off, or you lack the right to use Engage.
Nobody appears. → Nobody from your courses is online and visible near your town at the moment.
