LernHive demo data

LernHive demo data fills a disposable LernHive site with a realistic product demo: a course catalogue with ten courses, learners, trainers, enrolment examples and real learning activity. With one profile it also installs the demo data of the other LernHive plugins and opens the catalogue for logged-out visitors while the demo is installed.

What this plugin does

LernHive demo data fills a disposable LernHive site with a realistic product demo: a course catalogue with ten courses, learners, trainers, enrolment examples and real learning activity. With one profile it also installs the demo data of the other LernHive plugins and opens the catalogue for logged-out visitors while the demo is installed.

Use it only on demo, test, staging or disposable development sites. The generated users and courses are real Moodle records, and removing them is permanent.

Who this is for

RoleWhat they do
Site administratorCreates and removes the LernHive product demo and the full LernHive demo profile

Learners, managers (reporting line), trainers and platform administration do not work with this plugin. They see its results: demo courses in the catalogue and demo accounts.

Core concepts

  • LernHive product demo: the dataset of this plugin. It creates the category Praxisbeispiele with three subcategories, ten German catalogue courses, 20 learners, ten trainers, one manager account and the fixed accounts manager, teacher and student.
  • Full LernHive demo: a profile that installs the LernHive product demo together with the demo data of target groups, competencies, content library, seminars and pathways, as far as these plugins are installed.
  • Public catalogue: while the profile is installed, logged-out visitors see the courses marked as public.

Journeys by role

Site administrator: create the LernHive product demo

  1. Go to Site administration → Plugins → Local plugins → eLeDia | Demo. Demo-data execution must be switched on there (see the user documentation of eLeDia | Demo).
  2. In the card LernHive product demo, choose Create LernHive demo data.
  3. The message The LernHive demo dataset was created. appears. The card shows Demo data active and the number of learners, courses and completed quiz attempts.
  4. Create other LernHive datasets that build on it, for example target groups or competencies, afterwards. Their cards show Required demo datasets are not active: … until the LernHive product demo exists.

Site administrator: install the full LernHive demo

  1. On the same page, find the panel Full LernHive demo.
  2. Choose Install profile. The LernHive product demo is created first, then the other LernHive datasets. Plugins that are not installed on the site are named as skipped.
  3. While the profile is installed, the catalogue is visible to logged-out visitors. If it was already public, nothing changes.

Site administrator: remove the demo

  1. To remove the full demo, choose Remove profile in the panel Full LernHive demo and confirm. The datasets are removed in reverse order, and the public catalogue returns to its previous setting.
  2. To remove only the product dataset, remove the datasets that depend on it first, then choose Remove LernHive demo data in the card and confirm. With Remove selected under Manage demo data the page chooses the right order itself.

Settings that matter

None of its own. Demo-data execution and access are controlled on the eLeDia | Demo page. Creating and removing this dataset additionally requires the permission local/lernhive_demodata:managedemodata, which Moodle's Manager role holds by default.

Limitations

  • The course content is German. The Course content language setting of eLeDia | Demo does not apply to this dataset.
  • Creation fails if the site already has accounts with the usernames manager, teacher or student.
  • Demo accounts get random passwords that are not shown anywhere. Use Moodle's Log in as to see the site through a demo account.
  • Courses whose enrolment method is labelled with an approval use Moodle's self enrolment; there is no approval workflow behind it.
  • Paid enrolment is created only if the site has a payment account for Moodle's enrolment on payment; otherwise those courses have no paid enrolment.
  • Catalogue markings and the public catalogue need local_lernhive; without it the courses are created without them.
  • Removing the dataset deletes its users and courses permanently, including anything you added to those courses.
