What this plugin does

The LernHive theme was the earlier look of the platform. It is retired: LernHive now runs on the theme Boost Union, and the LernHive update switches every site from the LernHive theme to Boost Union. The theme stays installed only until all sites have been switched; it gets no new features.

Who this is for

RoleWhat they experience
LearnerAfter the switch, the LernHive areas are in the top navigation instead of a left sidebar
TrainerCourse editing works through Moodle's own controls; the floating action strip is gone
Site administratorChecks that the switch is complete and configures Boost Union

Journeys by role

Learner: find your areas after the switch

  1. Open the top navigation.
  2. Use Learn for the learning catalogue, your seminars, pathways, certificates and bookmarks.
  3. Your Dashboard and courses are where they were; only the navigation moved.

Trainer: edit a course after the switch

  1. Open your course and switch on Edit mode in the top bar.
  2. Use the course menu for participants, grades and settings.

Site administrator: check and complete the switch

  1. After the LernHive update, open Site administration → Appearance → Themes: Boost Union is the site theme.
  2. Check the status on the server: php local/lernhive/cli/retire_theme_lernhive.php. The site is ready when the command reports no remaining tie to the LernHive theme.
  3. If Boost Union was installed only after the update, or a theme is fixed in config.php, fix that and run php local/lernhive/cli/retire_theme_lernhive.php --run.
  4. Configure the look in Boost Union: logo, brand colour, login page, footer (Site administration → Appearance → Boost Union), and the email frame under Email design of LernHive.
  5. Purge the caches and check the Dashboard, the learning catalogue and one LernHive email.

Do not select the LernHive theme again; it will be removed in a later release.

Settings that matter

None any more. The theme's settings (launcher style, registration-code login, login course teasers, custom CSS, email branding) are no longer used or have moved: the registration-code login is configured in LernHive registration codes, the email frame in LernHive Email design, custom styles in Boost Union.

Limitations

  • Sites that still use the LernHive theme keep running, but receive only fixes that keep them working.
  • The floating action strip, the quick-tools panel and the login hero have no replacement.
  • A course, category, user or cohort theme is switched only where the site allows such theme overrides; other overrides stay and are listed by the status command.

Troubleshooting

The site still shows the LernHive theme after the update. → Boost Union was missing during the update, or config.php forces the theme. Fix that and run php local/lernhive/cli/retire_theme_lernhive.php --run.

A block disappeared after the switch. → Blocks of the theme regions are moved during the update. Check the Boost Union block regions of the page under Site administration → Appearance → Boost Union; regions such as "content upper" must be enabled for the page type.

Colours look like standard Moodle after the switch. → No brand colour was stored for the LernHive theme. Set the brand colour in Boost Union.

A user still sees the old look. → A personal theme is reset at the next login.

Screenshots

No screenshots: the theme is retired and its interface is not documented with images any more.
