Building block · local_lernhive_discovery
Find content — without enrolment.
The building block behind the Explore surface of the LXP flavour: courses, resources and author profiles as a searchable stream.
Overview
The discovery surface.
The Discovery building block opens the platform's content to curious learners. Courses, resources and author profiles become searchable — without every course needing its own enrolment. In the LXP flavour it powers the Explore surface, Follow, suggestions and notifications.
Core features
What Discovery offers.
Explore feed
Course teasers, resources and authors in one unified surface — sortable and filterable.
Projections
A prepared search view keeps results fast — even with 10,000 courses the list stays snappy.
Tag & facet search
Tags, languages, authors and durations as facets — classic eCommerce search, but for learning.
Visibility per role
Each feed entry checks whether the current user may see it — no leaks.
Trends & curation
Curated lists and trending badges — manually editable.
Follow integration
Following an author or tag feeds the personal stream.
How it works
How the feed is built.
-
Build the search view
In the background, courses, resources and author profiles are mirrored into a searchable view.
-
Apply visibility
Every query filters against role, audience and enrolment status.
-
Display
Facet sidebar, card view, sort options — fluid on mobile too.
-
Interaction
Follow, bookmark, enrol or open — every card offers the right actions.
Search where you'd search
Netflix-style cards with title, tag and duration — instead of a table with 12 columns.
Performance stays strong
The search view is maintained in the background — every page loads from a flat, prepared list. No compromise on speed, even on large instances.

FAQ
Common questions.
Is Discovery available in the School flavour?
No, by default. The School flavour focuses on enrolment — those who want can turn Discovery on via the feature level.
What about privacy and visibility?
Every query enforces roles, course visibility and audience rules — hidden courses stay hidden.
How well does it scale?
The search view is sized for instances with tens of thousands of courses. A dedicated search backend can be added for special cases.
